Wound Care and Anatomy Course

The Wound Care and Anatomy of the Skin Intensive course in an extensive continuation of the Relevant Anatomy & Aftercare Method/Theory course and is 5-hours in length. The Wound Care Intensive course examines and explains the mechanisms of wound healing and applications of effective wound care techniques. This course will address troubleshooting and assessment skills and objective product overviews, in addition to the following: the inflammatory response, the integumentary system (skin), the phases of wound healing and basic wound care. This course includes all instructionaland reference materials and a certificate of completion approved for 5 hours of Continuing Education Credits in Oregon.
Having been involved in the piercing industry for over twenty years, David Vidra, CLPN, WCC, MA, was the founder of Cleveland’s first piercing studio, Body Work Productions. His current company, Health Educators, provides up-to-date information and educational solutions for the modification and related industries. David is a worldwide consultant for the private sector, governmental agencies, and regulators. A past SPCP Industry Leader Award recipient, he is currently the Health & Safety Advisor for the SPCP. David has also served on the SPCP Board of Directors


Restoring Damaged Skin
Instructor: Mary Jane Haake of Dermigraphics Tattooing Studio
February 16, 2013, 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Mary Jane Haake, CPCP, began her training in restorative tattooing with Bert Grimm in 1978. Bert was hired by the United States Army to help injured soldiers returning from WW2 with mustard gas burns and other battle scars. He passed down his personal recipe book for his formulas to her and she has been actively working in this arena throughout her career.
Mary Jane will address the camouflage techniques she uses to restore a more natural look resulting from trauma, burns, staph infections and skin disorders such as Alopecia. She is active with the Wounded Warrior Project and will discuss the particular burns she has been treating in that regard. She will also address surgical scars, skin cancer and cleft lip repairs. In addition to restoring skin tones, she will also discuss what types of figurative tattoos work best on what types of scars. This class will include a take away package containing information and charts needed for camouflage work and has been approved for 2 hours of Continuing Ed Credits in Oregon.
Breast Restoration Worksho
Instructor: Mary Jane Haake of Dermigraphics Tattooing Studio
February 16, 2013, 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Mary Jane will address all aspects of breast restoration following mastectomies and other surgeries. In addition to restoring skin tones and the nipple/areola complex, she will also discuss what types of figurative tattoos work best on what types of scars. All restoration work is covered by the client's medical insurance under the Breast Cancer Recovery Act of 1998, whether applying a traditional tattoo or restoring skin tones. Pigment information will be available at the class, together with a take away package containing information and charts needed for camouflage work, including detailed instructions on filing insurance claims. This class has been approved for 2 hours of Continuing Education Credits in Oregon.
